I can see from all the hits on gmail, that Rosa has been very busy rounding up support to keep two baby mice. I need to take them to the pet shop and find out whether they are girls or boys - then we can decide. I will pick up the other Habitrail habitat tomorrow so will have it at school on Monday.
My back is finally getting a lot better. I was not a very happy chappy for a couple of days. Thank you for your messages!

Have a good day. Remember to bring your log books on Monday. If you need to contact me about science you can email me on year62008@gmail.com.
The Blog Awards are an opportunity for you to demonstrate what you have been learning in school and to communicate using a range of media! The wonderful thing about blogs is that you get feedback, in the form of comments, from your peers, friends, family and teachers from anywhere in the world, We have already had comments from teachers in USA and New Zealand on our classroom blog. Your school blog is primarily a learning tool but of course you have the opportunity to personalise it so that it reflects who you are and how you wan to be seen by the blogging world. We have already had a number of discussions about the appropriate use of your blog and I don’t anticipate there being any problems here. Remember if in doubt, check with a parent or me! so here we go - the Blog Awards -
Learning Intention
I am learning to…
Communicate appropriately on my school blog using a variety of media
Success Criteria
To fulfill this learning intention, I need to satisfy the following criteria……
proof read and edit my published blog work to the best of my ability
post examples of my school work
post reflections on my learning
make informative comments on other students’ blogs
include content on my blog that is informative and appropriate for school
We will vote for the best four blogs in Week Nine. I will talk to you about the voting process - but I would like to invite family and other teachers to vote too. What do you think?
I have been at home today because I have hurt my back. I went to the physio this morning - ooh did that hurt! Anyway I hope to be in tomorrow because I am running the Science programmes. Hope your science homework is going well and that you have a great day with Wendy tomorrow!
Sunlight streams through the towering trees filling the forest with a warm light. Birds chirp, singing their morning song. The forest is waking up. Dry dirt crumbles under my feet. A beautiful bird with bright, colourful feathers swoops over me, forcing me to duck. Tiny insects emerge from the soil and crawl quickly away. A slight breeze rustles through the trees. I shudder. Cold, crisp air floats through my nose, making me sneeze. The flax bushes whisper to each other as another gust of wind rushes through the forest. Suddenly a cloud covers the sun and rain starts to fall through the tall branches. I pull my coat close around me and run towards the batch. Brown, battered leaves crunch under my feet. I stumble over the roots. The trees start to disappear behind me. I rush through the front door of the batch. Home again!
The Blog Awards will take place in Week Nine of this term. Nominations will be taken in Week Eight. Four finalists will compete for first, second, third and fourth place. The first place winner will receive a unique ‘blogger toy’ handmade by Lesley. The runners-up will receive a mini ‘blogger’. The success criteria will be posted in the next few days. Keep posted to find out what you need to do to be a winner.
I had a very quick look through your writing samples today. They look very good. Wendy told me that she really enjoyed listening to you sharing your writing today and that the writing was of a very high standard. Well done everyone.
Our next piece of writing will be a scientific report of an experiment. We will be learning how to use appropriate scientific language within an appropriate format.
Mary chatted to me about your song writing that you are doing in music class. I thought it would work well to write some poetry next week - to tie in with song writing! I will bring some poems and song lyrics to study on Monday.
Science
I found this video which is about the formation of a star - pretty much what we have been reading about in Lucy and Stephen Hawkins’ novel.
Term Two is upon us already. I trust you have all had an enjoyable break from school and hope you come back tomorrow really ready to learn. We have an exciting term ahead with a strong focus on Science. We will be visit the Science Road Show in Week Nine at MOTAT and between now and then there will be heaps of science experiments and ‘hands on’ activities to explore scientific ideas. You will be working on your Science Fair Project for the first five weeks of term. Maybe you have had a think about your project and have already come up with some ideas! Don’t worry if you haven’t because Week One is all about exploring and sharing ideas and everyone will have a great topic by the end of the week. Guaranteed!
I emailed Bean Buchanan about coming to talk to you about his art work. Unfortunately he is busy making a film at the moment so can’t come to see us. However, I have managed to dig up some interesting bits and pieces about him, and we will explore his techniques and approaches and make our own art work hessian! A great piece for the art exhibition next term.
There will be a Blog Award this term. The award will go to the student(s) who show a strong commitment to developing an educational blog. I will talk to you about the criteria during week one.
…….enough chatter for now. I will put a more informative classroom programme up early in the week for parents and families. I am looking forward to catching up tomorrow and can’t wait to see our baby mice! Here is a You Tube video of a science fair in the USA.
Welcome to Room12s classroom blog at Bayfield School in Auckland. This blog provides a place for communication between students, teachers, parents, family and our community. We encourage parent involvment and feedback that will support our learning. This space will be used to post information about what we are learning in Room 12 and about our progress. We will be able to publish some of our work on the blog and get feedback from our peers and family! The children are gradually developing their own blogs which are linked to the class blog. Check out the 'pages' section where you will find references and links to items of interest for parents and students. We look forward to your comments and feedback. Lesley (Room 12's teacher)
