This is the last week of a long but eventful term!  We have had PATs, Swimming, Camp, Life Education, Mice, the Wii, Myst III and lots more!  We have a few things to finish this week so that we will be ready to start a whole new term in a few weeks.

Maths - Statistics.  Data collection and graphs/displays

Writing- Editing Myst III writing.  The quality of the ideas and use of language features  (deeper features) is generally good, however the general structure (surface features) needs work.  Most people have forgotten fullstops, capital letters, have spelling errors and sentences that dont make sense!  We will work on this and get the writing ready for publishing by the end of the week.

Art - Finish crayon batik

Life Education - Continue with “It’s Great To Be Me’

Homework Week 11

Reading, Basic Facts and spelling as usual.

This week’s task:

Oops!  Here it is….forgot to save the last one :-)

1. Complete the statistical survey and bring it to school on Wednesday to use in our maths class!

2.  In your homework book, do a brainstorm to generate ideas for your science fair project next term.  This is not a decision making time - but an opportunity to explore possible topics and share  some ideas.  We will discuss on Friday - so you need to bring your homework books in on Friday. (I won’t be coming in on Monday - so you can have a holiday then too if you like!).

3. Show the Science Fair Schedule and learning intentions to your family!  Chat to them about your ideas.

To put a cluster map on you side bar you need to go to Widgets from your Dashboard.  Remember to get to Widgets you need to select Presentation first.  Scroll down to Available Widgets and drag the  Custer Map Widget to your side bar. Click on the icon on the right hand side of it.  You will need to type in your email address - this will be the class gmail address with your added name.  For example - Imogen’s class email address is:  year62008+imogen@gmail.com

Make sure you click  Save Changes.  The Cluster Map should now be embedded in your side bar!  Good Luck.  If it doesn’t work I will help you tomorrow!

Taglines

Most of the templates have a ‘tagline’ under the blog title.  Check out the tagline on the class blog.  You can change your tagline by going into ‘options’.

Widgets

Use widgets in your sidebar to embed a whole range of things including a search box and calendar and meta.  To get  in your sidebar, go to presentation and click on widgets.  Scroll down and drag the widgets you want into the sidebar.

Categories

This allows you to file information using a categorie.  When you are writing a post, look on the right side of the draft page.  You can add your own categories and tick the ones that relate to your post.

The Life Education Classroom was really fun.    It was really good to see you all still so enthralled with Harold - he is pretty cute after all.

I also got the opportunity to observe and see how much you had remembered about your own body from earlier this year.  Some of you clearly remembered very well.

Next week we go on to look at some of the effects of not looking after your body - like smoking.

Here you all are inside and outside the classroom this morning!

Muffin and Vanilla

We have names for our mice!  It was a tough call but eventually we narrowed down the choices and voted for Muffin and Vanilla.  They are cute and I love the way that Emma has changed the tubing around so the mice can run through.  The Mice were very well looked after while we were at Camp.  Thank you Emma!

Cake Stall

The cake stall will actually be on Tuesday next week, starting sharp at 8.15 am.   It would be great if some of you could come early (8.00 am) to set up.  We will hold the stall out near the front office - to catch all the parents as they come in to school in the morning.

Make sure that your produce is hygenically wrapped and ready for sale.  Don’t use plates or containers that need to be returned.  We will price the produce on arrival at school to ensure sure we are consistent.

I will write a flyer orf the whole school, to go home on Friday.  We will need to make some posters for classrooms this week.  Should be lots of fun!  Start planning your baking and make sure that you have the ingredients you are going to need.  Don’t leave it all up to Mum and Dad.  Remember - you are learning to be organised and independent.

Your Blogs

I love the work you are doing on your blogs.  I have already seen two lots of homework and I will check others later tonight!  (Have to get dinner now….).  I think we will definitely make ginger beer next term - check out the recipe on Marko’s blog.  Keep up the good work.  It is great to see you writing and communicating with each other.

I will set up some more blogs tonight and tomorrow.  Emily and Julia are next.  If you want a blog email me on our class email address - year62008@gmail.com

…..dinner time…….

I had a very successful planning day with the senior team today.  Term 2 will be packed with science - including a science rotation, science fair and a visit to the Science Road Show.  More to come about next term soon.

I hope you all had a great day with Lorraine!  She commented to me at morning tea that you were a really great class!

I forgot to say that if you have your own class blog, it would be great to see your homework posted there instead of your homework book.   If you decide to use your blog, make sure that it is clearly labeled ‘Homework Week 10′ and check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar carefully.  Remember that if it is posted on your blog, it is there for all to see, so be proud of your work and go the extra mile.

I will be out of the classroom tomorrow (Monday) for our planning day for Term 2.  Lorraine will be relieving in our class.  It’s a bit unfortunate right after Camp, but just the way it turned out.  I will leave some work for you and we will have a big catch up about Camp on Tuesday.

Week 10 Programme

Breakfast on Monday- don’t forget breakfast on Monday to celebrate our efforts in ‘walk to school week’.  You need to be at school by 8.30 if you want to join us for breakfast in the hall.

Cake Stall - We will have our cake stall on Wednesday 16 April starting at 8.15 am.   This week we need to plan the cake stall and identify specific roles and responsibilities.   Remember we need to raise $100 just to break even so far!

The Life Education Van will be at school this week.  Our first slot is on Thursday morning.  We will be covering issues about communication, friendship and making good choices.

Language

  1. publish Myst III writing
  2. write a plan for running a cake stall
  3. publish writing from camp

Maths - Statistics

We will start a unit in statistics this week.

We are learning to…..

Conduct investigations using the statistical enquiry model by:

  • gathering, sorting and displaying data and simple time series to answer questions
  • Identifying patterns and trends in context within and between data sheets
  • Communicating findings using data displays

Homework

Reading, spelling and basic facts as usual.

This week’s homework task:

Write a reflection on your learning experiences at camp.  Write your reflection in your homework book using full sentences and paragraphs.  Check your spelling and punctuation carefully. Use the following headings/questions to guide your writing:

  • Explain what was the most valuable learning you did at camp?
  • Explain what was really tricky for you to learn at camp?
  • What strategies did you use to overcome your challenges?
  • Describe your favourite ’moment in time’ from camp.

Bring your homework book to school on Friday for your spelling test and to share your ideas.

See you tomorrow

Lesley

Congratulations to all the year six students! Camp was a great success and lots of fun and learning happened for everyone. I hope you are all having a relaxing weekend and catching up on some sleep. I have made a slide show on Rockyou of some of my pics. McKenzie’s Mum also took heaps of photos and will be burning them to disc. We will organise a copy for you all.
