Homework Week 6
1. Read every night for at least 20 minutes.
2. Practise your basic facts if you need to.
3. Write a reflection about the learning that has taken place while you have been working on your science fair project. This can be done in your homework book or directly on your own blog – your choice! Make sure you write using proper sentences and really THINK about your learning. Make an honest assessment of how it all went. Think about the management and organisation of your project as well as the science you found out about. Think about whether working with a partner or on your own had been a good decision. Discuss your thoughts and ideas with someone at home. Check your work carefully for spelling and punctuation errors. If you use your blog for this, don’t forget to use the spell check!
Use the following headings to guide you:
What went well?
What would you do differently next time?
What did you find tricky or hard?
What science did you learn?
Did you think like a scientist?
What did you really enjoy?
What advice would you give to students next year before they start their science fair projects?
This piece of work should reflect your ability to think critically about your own work!
Bring your Homework book to school on Friday.

I have had such a busy week I haven’t had a chance to catch up on the blog! I can’t believe it is already week 6! Only four weeks to the holidays and half way through the year.
This will be a fun week week with Science Fair from Tuesday to Thursday. John will come in on Wednesday and judge the exhibits and you will each receive a certificate with feedback from him.
Make sure you have your projects ready for Tuesday morning and take it straight to the Hall before class. I will be there and will help you get set up. I can’t wait to see all the fabulous work you have been doing at home!

The cross Country went really well today. Everyone rose to the challenge and ran their very best. Congratulations to everyone. I have quite a few photos and I know you will want some copies. I will put them on a pen drive and then you can take turns copying the ones you want! I will make a slide show on Rock You for the blog.
Remember tomorrow I am teaching the science extension programme. Have a great day with Wendy. I will be around school so will pop in and say hello.

It was good to get back to school this Monday after having time off with my sore back. It has been a busy week but we are working on some really interesting projects.
Visual Art
Our Dean Buchanan work is coming along very well. You had a great start with Angela, when I was away last Wednesday! I bought the hessian yesterday so we can get started next week on the painting! I am planning our next art project and thinking about weaving??????
Writing
We will continue to write our scientific reports and will start some poetry!
Reading
Our reading recently has been focused on reading for information. We have just started play reading to prepare us for speeches - oral language! Next week we will examine a range of stories with a focus on understanding the deeper meanings in text.
Maths
We start our unit in measurement and in particular look at measuring angles.
Sport
Cross Country is our current focus in preparation for our school cross country next Wednesday at Cox’s Bay Reserve.
Science Fair
I have been conferencing with all of you over the last week or two about your science fair projects. You only have just two weeks before the Science Fair goes on display in the Hall. Most of you seem to be well on the way! Remember to keep your log book up to date and bring it to school on Mondays and any other time your are asked to. You also need to come and talk to me if you are having any problems! Don’t leave it until the last minute.

Here is some of Dean Buchanan’s art work for you to think about. You can check out more by clicking on his name and going to his website. See if you can work out how he might have created the images - his technique.
Here is a quote from Dean Buchanan:
“If you stopped me from painting I would probably die. It’s become that important to me I want to fill the world with colourful images before I die. I want to leave something, I want to leave a legacy.”
What do you think Dean Buchanan means by this?

I picked up the Ovo this afternoon. It really is cool.
My last post was not a ‘telling off’ but rather a prompt for you to think about how we are using the blog. Remember we learn by ‘having a go’ and then modifying what we have done for next ime. I love your enthusiasm for writing on the blogs.
Looking forward to catching up tomorrow!

Hi everyone
It is Sunday lunchtime and I have been bombarded over the weekend, with comments on gmail, about keeping the mice. I have ‘got the message’ and I don’t need another twenty messages to convince me! We will have some discussion about the mice at school tomorrow. I know you are all desperate to keep some of the baby the mice, but we need to think about the responsibilities and make an informed decision.
Do you think it is appropriate to use the blogs in this way to get your point across? Has this approach worked so far?
Although the blogs are a great way to communicate with each other - remember that we have set them up with a learning purpose. That doesn’t mean you can’t chat to each other using comments, but multiple messages just clog up the system. Perhaps this is one of those learning experiences? Think about how your using the blog before you start sending multiple messages and have a look back at our learning intentions.
Thanks
Lesley

Hello everyone
I can see from all the hits on gmail, that Rosa has been very busy rounding up support to keep two baby mice. I need to take them to the pet shop and find out whether they are girls or boys - then we can decide. I will pick up the other Habitrail habitat tomorrow so will have it at school on Monday.
My back is finally getting a lot better. I was not a very happy chappy for a couple of days. Thank you for your messages!
I started making another Blogger toy - I will bring it to school on Monday. Don’t forget we will have a lunch time sewing group for anyone still interested.
I will post more on the blog later - programme for next week and homework!!!
bye for now and have a good weekend.
Lesley
